Update HS codes for Civil Cryptography Products

The Vietnamese government has recently revised the HS codes for civil cryptography importing products, with the changes taking effect from June 9, 2023. These updates aim to align Vietnam's HS codes with international standards, streamlining customs procedures for greater accuracy and efficiency.

Critical update for HS Code for civil cryptography importing products:

- Removed HS Codes:

- Added New HS Codes:

8443.32.40 (replacing 8443.32.41 and 8443.32.49)

8471.70.90 (substituting 8471.70.99)

8517.14.00 (taking the place of 8517.12.00)

8517.62.43 (replacing 8517.62.21 and 8517.62.29)

8517.79 (substituting 8517.70)

- Introduction of New HS Code Groups (Based on Product Characteristics):

8525.81 (8525.81.10; 8525.81.20; 8525.81.90)

8525.82 (8525.82.10; 8525.82.20; 8525.82.90)

8525.83 (8525.83.10; 8525.83.20; 8525.83.90)

8525.89 (8525.89.10; 8525.89.20; 8525.89.30; 8525.89.90)

Circular 32/2023/NĐ-CP (Circular 32) provides detailed guidance on the new HS codes for civil crypto products. The Circular also specifies that businesses that have been granted export or import licenses for civil crypto products before the effective date of Circular 32 may continue to use those licenses until they expire, provided that the product names are consistent with the descriptions in the Vietnam Export-Import Commodity Catalog. In such cases, the Customs Authority will determine the HS code and clear customs procedures for businesses based on the Vietnam Export-Import Commodity Catalog.

These revisions are anticipated to enhance the efficiency of customs clearance procedures for civil crypto products. Businesses importing or exporting such products should familiarize themselves with the updated HS codes and adjust their customs declarations accordingly.
